HISTORY of Kings Foundation:

The landmark of Sri Lanka has changed drastically during the last 3 decades into a place of hopelessness and chaos. The communities living in the extreme cluttered corners of this disturbed Island has witnessed the consequences of a more fragmented social fabric for years due to undemocratic governance, lack of accountability practices and deficits in transparency mechanisms

As an organized social entity fighting corruption and malpractices in the ground, The KINGS FOUNDATION has advocated for people friendly policies and practices that would eventually change the lives of the people who have undergone mass sufferings.

As our name proclaims, we wanted to be the leaders in the foray to utilize all our resources maximizing a pragmatic process of change that can be testified by the people for the people by the people.

All we want to do is to put people in the centre of development planning where people are empowered with the extreme power and likelihood to take decision that affect their day to day life

In addition we strong with the People, leading the way and showing the gateway of a Pragmatic democratic process that adheres the values of Transparency and Accountability.

Thus, the Kings Foundation was formed in the year 2012 by likeminded justice, democratic and social activists in the eastern shores of Sri Lanka

In our steadfast march as leaders promoting accountable governance, we understand the plight of the communities we serve and we always address them as ACTIVE RIGHT HOLDERS of the results we produce together with the People and the civil society organizations.

OVERALL OBJECTIVE:

Kings Foundation’s Sri Lanka objective is sustaining community based initiatives that can fight corruption and malpractices at all levels of the community.

Mobilizing communities for a just and sustainable people’s order.

APPROACHES:

  • Collective approach : Strengthening community based societies to reduce occurrence of human rights violation (HRV) to bring out changes in attitude, behaviors, policies, structures and law through raising opposition and prevention among officials from the government sectors and the community : have collective approaches for reasons and solutions for HR issues gathering service providers: apply a collective approach suitable to lead towards solutions with participation of the service providers after having a deep concern and clearance in various dimensions of violation. Meanwhile service providers’ network will have a collective approach to handle social issues, which arise during implementation of solutions.

  • Rights based approach : All the plans and activities of Kings Foundation Sri Lanka focus on ensuring rights and dignity of the affected persons who is easily vulnerable to further violations (especially women those who are vulnerable to violation with gender inequality). Moreover, the Kings Foundation – Sri Lanka works on protection and promotion rights of civilians, the victims of gender based violence, discrimination, and domination and human rights violations.

  • Development approach : The Kings Foundation – Sri Lanka conducts sustainable development activities for the affected communities ensuring equal sharing development resources to the communities and the vulnerable.

FOCAL AREAS

Enhancing community literacy and knowledge

Our prime focus is on community literacy and knowledge where we believe that mobilizing and creating well informed communities at the grassroots can bring about massive changes in the lives of the people. We use traditional and contemporary tools to enhance the knowledge base at the community level and people can strive to make the changes that they believe


Advocacy and outreach

We embark on platforms that can create a positive change in the community lives where people have credible voice to raise issues pertaining to their socio economic and cultural development. We want to see that the state and development practitioners listen to the people’s voice in all its aspects.

Development viability

We focus on feasibility of the development projects and the implementation of the same. Every venture that targets change should reach the people with the transformation it has proposed. We support community groups to form cooperatives for sustainable and pragmatic initiatives at the community level that could impact on the livelihoods of people.

PROJECT MONITORING AND EVALUATION (PME) SYSTEM

Monitoring is a regular exercise in which staff and the target group has well defined role and participation. Monitoring includes maintenance of right holder profiles and records by right holder and his family. It includes qualitative changes in the conditions and lifestyle of the right holder with the observations. The monitoring mechanism includes with social skills, life-changing stories documented at all levels. Maintenance of day-to-day activities, training activities, advocacy measures and links formed with other organizations plays a key role in our quality assurance procedures. We always believe in reporting what we exactly see.

FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

We are ZERO TOLERANCE against financial mishandling and we stand as a team to fight financial discrepancies. All our transactions with our 9 Profile Kings Foundation – Sri Lanka partners and community is genuine and open according with our accountability standards.
